Potty Training

While we were home for Christmas, Grandma Waite brought up the topic of potty training with Kilynn and went out and bought her some pretty underwear. We call her underwear "pantelettes" from a book called, "The Princess and the Potty." Kilynn didn't seem too excited about her pretty pink pantelettes until about a week after we got home and then she started begging to wear them everytime she saw them in her drawers. Two weeks ago on Monday she was asking again to wear them. She was in a good mood and so was I, so it began. She did a good job of eating snacks, drinking a lot, and singing songs while siting on the potty, but wasn't ever successful putting anything inside it that day.I just let her keep trying and let her have accidents. She hates messes and it really bothered her when she'd have an accident, so by the end of the day I could tell she was getting closer to realizing when she needed to go in order to avoid a mess. The next morning she woke up and insisted on wearing pantalettes again and sitting on the potty. It wasn't long before she did it! She was so proud of herself and was a pro from then on and stayed dry all day!
What a little princess sitting on her throne!
I had been promising a bowl of ice cream if she went potty. She didn't let me forget about that!
She has yet to really go mess on the toilet and I imagine that will take a while to figure out. She accidentally messed a little bit once in her potty chair, and when she saw it she freaked out and would not sit down again to finish the job let alone get anywhere near the potty. She'd scream and point to it saying "Rock?! Bug?!" In a voice that said, "how did that gross thing whatever it is get in there?" I wasn't planning/wanting to start this process yet due to the fact that I'd be having a baby soon. I did have a goal back when I found out I was expecting again, to have her potty trained before the next baby came. In September I checked out some books on the topic and then decided based upon what I was reading that Kilynn wasn't really ready yet. By late November I could see that she was probably ready, but didn't want to start amid Christmas preparation craziness and traveling. Therefore, I gave up on the idea until Kilynn insisted. I'm still not convinced that the timing was great even though she has done such a great job. It will be interesting to see how things go with nursing a new baby and having to jump up all the time and rush with Kilynn to the bathroom when she says she has to go.

Love the "Pantelettes" and the potty in your dining room!:) What great timing on the potty training! And I thought I might add that it's amazing what you can accomplish while you're nursing a baby!
