This weekend we went to a farm near us to pick out a pumpkin. I'll post a picture of the pumpkin in about a week so you can see my amazing carving skills (hopefully). What I was most excited about though was this gourd that I saw at the farm. I thought it was the coolest thing! It's scientific name is Lagenaria siceraria, but it has many nicknames including bottle gourd and birdhouse gourd (it's popular to carve a birdhouse out of it). I had to get one. Also this weekend, we picked most of our onions. Kilynn is standing by the two biggest ones from the patch.
Joseph's mom apparently braids her onions into big bunches to hang them to dry. We've never seen this, but decided to try it.
Joseph was better at braiding than I was, but at least mine are still holding together.
How did we do Penny? Does it look anything like how you did it? I think the onions are supposed to dry this way for several weeks and then we will cut the onions from the braid, put them in a burlap sack and be able to enjoy them in our food all winter.
A few weeks ago my sister Amy and her family stopped by for a short visit on their way to the coast. I haven't seen their family since shortly after Joseph and I got married. I knew I would be in for a shock when I saw the kids because they have all grown so much! It was so good to see them. They were able to stay and eat dinner with us before heading to their hotel in Tillamook.
Kilynn finally got to meet her other twin cousin. Abram was born just six days before Kilynn. He's a cutie! Thanks for visiting Amy and Shawn!

Yeah! I think I can post a comment now :) I love your blog updates and keeping up with you and your family. Love the onion idea. I bet it was good to see Shawn, Amy, and family. The last time we saw them was over 2 years ago when we took Maddie to EFY in Rexburg.

Those onions are awesome!! Ours that we grew in Ontario didn't turn out so well. You definitely have a green thumb! You'll have to come help us out next year.
