The Beach
We went to the coast about three or four times over the summer and Kilynn never got used to it or seemed to enjoy it much. Come to think of it, I guess I didn't either! I like the thought of being there and it always looks so inviting and exciting as we pull up in the car, but then as soon as I step out of the car I begin to just endure being there. It's always cold and windy and the wind blows sand into everything including the eyes making it impossible to even enjoy the scenery. I was so sure that this trip would be different though. We traveled to Toledo which is five miles away from Newport for their "Summer Fest." We showed up for their parade and then stuck around for a lumberjack's competition. It was in the upper 90s in Toledo and we were dying while sitting in the stands watching the competition. After the competition we headed over to Newport thinking it would be the perfect day at the beach (I've never been there when it's warm). Well we were kind of surprised to go from that hot hot sunny weather, drive five miles down the road, get out of the car and get blasted with fridged wind. The temperature was probably in the 70s, but that ocean wind made it seem so cold! I've been told that the best time to visit the Oregon coast is in the fall. We'll have to try that next year and maybe I'll have a report that's a little more positive.
