Old News

I realize this is all old stuff, but I want to post for my own records.

We ended up not doing much of anything for Halloween. We didn't even take Kilynn to the trunk or treat:) We figured Kilynn wouldn't care too much. I'm not that in to Halloween, so I'm glad I got to enjoy a quiet Halloween weekend since it will probably be one of my last.

We did get around to carving pumpkins which I do like. Joseph wasn't as excited about it, but he dutifully carved a traditional jack-o-lantern.

Joseph tried something new this year and got a deer tag for this side of the state. He talked his brother Ben into doing the same. I thought it would be completely pointless because I couldn't see (and still cannot see) how it would be possible to hunt over here. The forests are so thick that you can't even walk through them, let alone see to hunt! They both surprised me. Ben came down and within two days of hunting he had his buck. Joseph went out last Saturday and came home with one too. This was a big thing for Joseph. He has a perfect record so far for getting a deer whenever he gets a tag. The fact that he kept up that record even though he had to hunt on this side of the state this year is a big deal. Ben left his deer here for us. the deal is that we get most of the meat and Joseph will make him some summer sausages and maybe some pepperoni sticks. This is Joseph's new hobby and he is very good at it. We took an evening last week to cut and wrap Ben's deer, and we did the same thing this week with Joseph's deer. Joseph cut and I wrapped. Our freezer is now full again.

Here is Joseph with his buck. I have decided not to post pictures of Ben with his because they were all a little too bloody.

Last week, Kilynn learned how to climb onto the couch. She was so pleased with herself! As soon as I could see that she was going to be up on the couch all the time, I started working hard to teach her how to get back down safely, feet first. The first day that she learned to climb up, I felt like I needed to be right next to her all the time because when she wanted to get down, she would just dive off head first. Soon though, she realized that diving wasn't fun and she'd just sit on the couch and call for me when she got bored and wanted to get down. It didn't take her long to learn how to get down on her own. She is on and off the couch all the time now. She has discovered how to be a little more independent I think she is very proud of that. This is one of her first times climbing up.

Kilynn loves this picture of Jesus. Anytime we walk by it, she points to it and says "sususs." In a whispery sort of way. I put the picture on the couch and it is want inspired her to climb up the first time. This video shows her giving Jesus a kiss.

I've told you how Kilynn can tell you want a doggy says. She has now added two more animal sounds to her repertoire. She can "who who" like an owl and growl like a bear. She will also growl if you ask her what a Lion or Tiger says, but she learned it first in association with a picture of a bear. Kilynn gets more and more fun every day. I can see her becoming more awake to the world and I can see her mind working constantly. It's so fun to see her making all sorts of connections. She understands so many words now. I can ask her where my nose, ears, eyes, and mouth are and she can point to them. She learned belly button the other day and now she is lifting up our shirts all the time looking for them. I'll have to keep her in a onsie now because yesterday she was so interested in her bellybutton, and picked at it so much, that by the end of the day it was looking a little raw.
